Once again the Illawarra Beekeepers will open the bee hive doors for this annual event on Saturday 4th May. Growing in popularity every year, beekeeping has become a hobby for many Sutherland Shire and Sydney residents. The Open Day is an opportunity to showcase our wonderful facilities at Sutherland Bee Gardens and for the community to discover the magnificent world of bees.
Adults, children and even toddlers can dress in protective clothing and take a tour through the apiary to look inside a working bee hive. Throughout the day there will be informative talks and demonstrations on beekeeping and the process involved in honey extraction.
There are stalls with honey, bees wax candles, wax wraps, soaps and other products for sale all produced by our members. The very popular kids corner with games and giveaways. Take time to enjoy a cuppa with homemade cakes, biscuits or slice, all provided by members or a BBQ sausage on a roll for a bit of lunch, honey sandwiches for the young ones or young at heart, will be a sweet reward.
