Open Day 4th May 2019: President Report

Another fabulous Open Day, the sun was out, the crowds arrived and everyone had a great day. Thank you to all our visitors that attended our annual Open Day, this event just keeps on growing every year.

President Report

Illawarra Beekeepers Open Day was held on May 4th where the doors to our club were once again open to showcase the wonderful facilities we have. Beekeeping is growing in popularity every year,  with more Sutherland Shire and Sydney residents taking up this fascinating hobby.

The weather was amazing yet again for this annual event and so was the crowds, as they kept on arriving all day, our focus this year was on introducing Beekeeping as a hobby to the community. The apiary visits were once again popular as adults and kids as young as 20 months dressed in protective clothing to take a guided tour through the apiary and a look inside a working beehive. What a great job our volunteers did dressing everyone.

Our members provided honey for tasting and sales, informative talks on beekeeping, demonstrations on making Eco Wax Wraps and Honey Extraction. The kid’s corner held story time, games and giveaways, along with an enjoyable spot to sit for a while. The BBQ was in full steam turning out sausage sizzle rolls to the hungry crowds and with a tea or coffee and cake in hand, there was time to enjoy the atmosphere of relaxed fun and entertainment.

Congratulations to our prize winners and thank you to everyone for visiting us this year, we are once again already looking forward to next years event.
